Season One, an overview of initial tasks

Updated: Jun 24, 2022

During season one we spent most of our time working on our boat, all supervised by our faithful furry friends.

The boat required a bow to stern scrub, inside and out. All items were removed and every surface scrubbed. There were many leaks which resulted in water damaged cushions, dirty and moldy surfaces.

  • We removed all cushions and salvaged what we could, purchased new foam, and began the journey of sewing new cushion covers. #Foamfactory

  • We loved this hand pump sprayer for internal cleaning; especially in hard to reach areas.

All water tanks leaked and the water lines were old, brittle, and dirty. The water pump was noisy, a task saved for another day.

  • We fixed the tanks, replaced all water lines with new Blue and Red water lines.

The holding tank hadn't been pumped out in YEARS, no joke.

  • We visited the pumpout station, flushed the tank, replaced vent gaskets, and cleaned the vent line.

The portlights leaked, the front hatch was cracked, and most of our thru-hull fittings/bolts leaked.

  • We removed all portlght frames and hatches one by one and removed all remnants of silicone, cleaned all debri, and replaced with butyl tape.

  • We replaced the old portlight lens with new, the old ones were crazed.

  • We installed a new forward hatch.

  • We removed the bolts, removed silicone, cleaned and reinstalled with butyl tape.

The AC Unit received attention:

  • We removed the AC unit and cleaned it, combed the fins, and reinstalled. We replaced all old duct with new duct and placed screens in the vent openings to block the Mud Daubers.

We installed new marine speakers.

The Grill was removed and cleaned, it was full of mud daubers.

We installed an updated battery charging system.

We installed LED lights.

We began the tedious teak work.

We found a diesel tank leak. Took it out for repair.

We removed the water heater, took it home for repairs.

We cleaned the lazarette, it was holding water so we fixed that issue, and replaced the rotten teak barrier with a plastic polyethylene board.

The only item that worked well was our Diesel engine, it was sound and only required maintenance.
